Position Summary
Under the supervision and direction of the Area Supervisor, the Airport Maintenance Operator is responsible for carrying out a variety of airport maintenance and construction activities in a timely manner, which includes but is not limited to operating heavy equipment to remove snow, water, ice, and other contaminants from all airport airside/groundside surfaces, which may include using hand tools, power equipment and other light equipment to ensure the safety of aircraft and passengers at the Jasper-Hinton Airport.
Position Responsibilities
Operate a wide variety of small and heavy airport equipment in a safe and effective manner;
Perform regular airport maintenance including runway maintenance, snow, water, ice and other contaminant removal, vegetation control and litter removal on regular basis;
Assist with sign installation, flagging, guard rail and culvert installations;
Assist with bridge cleaning and repairs, brush removal, road checks;
Assist with animal carcass removal as needed;
Supervise and direct road maintenance contractors;
Ensure first calls for various projects;
Ensure equipment ismaintained, clean, safe, and secure;
Record daily observations using a daily runway inspection checklist and report to NAV Canada;
Maintain and recorddaily runway surface condition inspection checklist and report to Snow wiz NAV Canada;
Maintain and recordthe Jasper-Hinton Airport Physical Inspection Check List;
Maintain inventory of supplies;
Perform daily safety and maintenance checks;
Maintain records and log of maintenance work performed;
Advise Area Supervisor of any required maintenance;
Remove carcasses and debris from runway right-of-way and report accordingly;
Monthly water sampling and testing taken to Alberta Health Services;
Other duties as required from time to time.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/Skills
Completion of Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent;
Minimum of one (1) year with small and heavy equipment operation required;
Minimum of one (1) year in road construction and maintenance required;
Minimum of one (1) year experience operating an airport required;
Completion of Flagman Training;
One (1) year experience in municipal setting considered an asset;
Accredited heavy equipment operator course considered an asset;
Mechanical aptitudeand experience performing minor mechanical maintenance preferred (i.E. oil changes and grease fittings);
Proficient in Microsoft Office;
Knowledge of runwaymaintenance techniques;
Familiarity with airport operating manual, Canada Aviation Regulations and Aeronautic Act;
Valid Class 5 driver’s license, preferred class 3 license;
Completion of Defensive Driving Course;
Completion of Standard First Aid and Level A CPR course.

The salary range is $59, 860 to $74, 227 per year. Yellowhead County offers a competitive benefit package.
