Kawartha Veterinary Emergency Clinic (KVEC) is hiring Part-Time Animal Care Attendants! We are looking for devoted team players who thrive in a collaborative environment and are a believer in gold standard care with the experience and a know-how to make it happen attitude! This is an excellent opportunity for someone who loves animals (cats and dogs) and thrives in a fast-paced, team environment.
The Animal Care Attendant (ACA) is an essential part of the clinic and is responsible for providing all aspects of care and support for the animals in the care of KVEC. Working closely with the Registered Veterinarian Technicians (RVT’s), the ACA will ensure that the care and welfare of all animals and the clinic are maintained in agreement with KVEC expectations and protocols.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma and/or College as applicable
- Previous professional experience in the pet industry;
hands on working with felines &
canines in a professional setting or a keen interest in gaining experience
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Understand the basics of animal body language and behaviour
- Attentive to the individual needs of the animals in your care
- Detail oriented and precise
- Focused and does not get easily distracted in a highly distracting environment
- Be able to safely move, examine and interact with dogs of all sizes including dogs that are over 100 lbs
- Proven reliability, punctuality, and low absenteeism
- Available all holidays including August long weekend, Labour day weekend, Thanksgiving holiday, Christmas Day and New Years Day, Easter &
May Long Weekend
- Are able to work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work well as a team and to follow instructions unsupervised
- Must be physically fit and comfortable working in an environment that requires long periods of being on your feet, lifting and cleaning
**Responsibilities**:
- Feed and water animals at per-determined meal times
- Daily cleaning and maintenance of animal housing
- Understand the needs of each individual animal to better assist with their care
- Immediately and accurately update the Floor Manager/Lead RVT of any change in behaviour, and/or health status
- Correctly fill out any charting that is required to keep track of the animals’ progress
- Provides physical activity (dog walking, etc.) environmental enrichment, and socialization to the animals (outside in all weather elements - snow, rain, cold, heat)
- Restocking of daily supplies
- Comfortable in a busy, noisy environment
- Good attention to detail
- Provide exemplary customer service to our clients - including client care in-person and on the phone.

**Salary**:
$17.00-$22.00 per hour
