Assistant Controller
**Reports To**
Controller
**Summary**
The Assistant Controller holds the responsibility for managing the day-to-day financial accounting operations of Eden Valley Inc. and will provide accurate information to the Controller. Areas of responsibility will include:
overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable;
owning the capital asset and major repairs reporting process;
and the preparation of financial statements for management and external stakeholders.
The Assistant Controller plays a key role in managing the company’s accounting functions, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures. The Assistant Controller monitors cost centers for accuracy and ensure accounts are properly reconciled. The Assistant Controller manages the credit relationship related to credit granting, credit reviews, delinquent accounts, and credit insurance providers.

**Job Duties**
- Ensure that financial information is accurate and appropriate for use by stakeholders.
- Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise.
- Preparing financial statements for management and board of directors.
- Ensure that month-end financial accounting duties and all resulting financial reporting is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform budget to actual variance analysis.
- Establish and monitor internal control to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with establishes legal regulatory and company policies and procedures.
- Complete year-end financial statements and scheduled in preparation of the external audit.
- Active participation in the external audit, respond to inquires or concerns from the auditors.
- Provide advice and guidance on financial systems, record keeping policies and reporting.
- Provide query support to cost center owners and cost center managers.
- Responsible for reporting to external organizations including Statistics Canada.
- Coordinate and manage the account operations including journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting.
- Manage the activities and people in the A/P, A/R and administration functions.
- Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls.
- Provide ongoing coaching and development of staff.
- Create and foster a motivating work environment by rewarding and recognizing performance and dealing effectively with the areas that need improvement.
**Requirements**:
- University degree in Business/Accounting with advanced degree or hold a professional accounting designation (CPA)
- Minimum 4 years working experience in accounting required.
- Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management.
- Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
- High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
- Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.

**Work Conditions**
