- The City of North Vancouver is the urban core of the beautiful North Shore and has a long-term vision to be “The Healthiest Small City in the World”, with five key priorities to be a City for People, a Resilient City, a Vibrant City, a Connected City and a Prosperous City.- The Planning and Development Department is looking for a temporary full-time Building Inspector - Minor Structures to join their team for approximately two years.**Responsibilities**
- In this position you will perform building plan review, inspectional, regulatory and enforcement work related to building construction of single-family dwellings, garage/carports, and buildings regulated under Part 9 of the BC Building Code (non-complex buildings). Specifically, you will conduct plan reviews and detailed inspections of all building classification types under Part 9 of the BC Building Code to ensure compliance with Construction Regulation and Zoning Bylaws and the BC Building Code. Field work will involve inspecting construction to help ensure that the design, materials, workmanship and safety features meet or exceed standards and conform to approved plans and specifications. You will review construction, alteration and repair matters with contractors, property owners and other interested parties;
interpret applicable by-law requirements;
advise stakeholders of construction changes or corrections required and check that deficiencies are corrected. You will also prepare reports on inspections and issue inspection notices when required standards have been satisfied.**Requirements**:
- Along with possessing a post-secondary diploma in Building Technology, you will be BOABC Level II “Qualified” for Building Officials, or be able to be enrolled in the Building Official-in-Training Program (BOIT) and commit to becoming “Qualified” within a required timeline, you will have sound knowledge of inspection, regulatory and enforcement work related to building construction and current trade practices with considerable related work experience. Additionally, you will have a strong grasp of the BC Building Code, the ability to read plans and specifications, and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Prior experience in a municipal inspector’s role with experience in permitting software would be considered an asset. A class 5 BC Driver’s License as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and use of mobile computers (iPad) is also required.**Compensation**
- $39.17 - $ $46.24/hour + benefits- (Pay Grade 23 - January 2023 rates) Currently under review**Hours of Work**
- The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:
30 am to 5:
00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every 3-week scheduling cycle.**Additional Information**
- You will be required to provide your own transportation in return for reimbursement according to the Vehicle Policy.- For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.**How to Apply**
