We are seeking a top-tier professional with an ambitious spirit coupled with a strong business sense and customer service approach as a Chief Inspector.
Under the supervision and direction of Supervisor, Mechanical Integrity, the Chief Inspector is responsible for ensuring pressure equipment integrity within the ATCO EnPower facilities. This role will ensure that the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management program (PEIM) is adequate and sufficient for compliance with provincial government regulations, specifically ABSA, and is in conformance with widely accepted industry practices. The Chief Inspector has the responsibility, authority, and oversight to identify problems and recommend solutions to issues related to pressure equipment integrity. Some of the key responsibilities include ensuring that all inspections and repairs to the Boilers, Pressure Vessels, and Pressure Piping are completed and certified in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management program, which under the ABSA regulations allows ATCO to In-house manage the scope of work listed on the current AB-512a Form. The Chief Inspector has overall accountability to manage all pressure equipment integrity within the ATCO EnPower assets under the scope of the ATCO Owner User programs. This role will also ensure that the full pressure equipment lifecycle (including but not limited to purchases, fabrication, and rentals) complies with the Alberta Safety Codes Act and Regulations.
This position requires frequent and regular travel to offices and assets, many of which are considered remote.
**What You Get To Do**:
- Responsible for integrity management system with authority &
oversight to identify pressure equipment integrity issues and implement solutions accordingly.
- Act as a key liaison with the Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) and maintain a positive working relationship to influence regulatory guidance. Key contact for all projects requiring ABSA jurisdictional approval. Responsible for any accident and incident reporting to ABSA that falls under their jurisdiction.
- Develop, recommend, and implement policies as they pertain to pressure equipment integrity, service, and inspection.
- Review tenders, contracts, and orders for services related to:
- the manufacture or fabrication of new pressure equipment,
- the installation of new or used pressure equipment,
- repairs or alterations of pressure equipment,
- NDE and Destructive Examinations as well as safety valve servicing,
- special fabrication/manufacturing processes or material treatments.
- May sit on steering committees requested or formed by ABSA.
- Perform spot audits on contractors and field service providers to ensure they are compliant with company standards and government regulations.
- Ensure all contractors supplying services on pressure equipment have the required competency, permits and approvals.
- Ensure all regulatory inspections are scheduled and completed within the approved timelines and intervals.
- Act as the “fitness for service administrator”. Ensure coordination with other engineering disciplines and archive necessary documentation for future audits.
- Manage site pressure equipment nonconformance reporting and leads discussion on repair strategies and timing.
- Ensure that all responsibilities assigned to the Chief Inspector in the current Pressure Equipment Integrity Manual (AES-M-001) are executed.
- Ensure the overall cost management of projects including review of estimates, tracking and reporting on spend, and appropriately managing overages.
- Support other Business Units within ATCO EnPower and encourage compliance and cooperation.
- Actively promote health and safety initiatives throughout daily activities.
- Participate in and contribute actively to safety meetings and/or corporate emergency response planning exercises.
- Report and investigate incidents to mitigate the potential for future incidents through the identification and elimination of root cause elements.
- Actively participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee, and/or stress and burnout management initiatives at EnPower.
