The Canadian Hatching Egg Producers (CHEP) is the national representative organization for the broiler hatching egg industry in Canada. CHEP ensures a dependable supply of quality broiler hatching eggs to Canadian Hatcheries.
**Job Details**
The Communications and Government Relations Advisor will contribute to CHEP’s mandate by building and maintaining strong relationships with government stakeholders, monitoring relevant current events, and developing all the organization’s communications.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Lead CHEP’s media and other communications including preparing and distributing press releases, statements, responding to media inquiries, and preparing CHEP representatives for interviews.
- Evaluate the efficiency of current communications efforts and recommend improvements.
- Identify opportunities in the field of communications with the goal of improvement for of the organization’s current activity.
- Make presentations and provide reports to CHEP’s Board of Directors.
- Maintain CHEP’s online presence, website, and social media.
- Develop key messages, speaking notes and presentations.
- Build relationships with Federal Members of Parliament, Senators, Ministers’ staff, and senior departmental officials.
- Develop and execute federal government relations strategies to promote CHEP’s interests with the federal government.
**Qualification, Education and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, journalism, or communications is preferred.
- Experience in communications, creating innovative communications plans, and strategies.
- Strong media relations experience.
- Experience in social media campaigns.
- Experience at an industry advocacy association.
- High proficiency in English and French written and spoken.
- Exceptional research, analysis, synthesis, and reporting skills.
- Sharp, engaging, professional;
able to build rapport with, and influence, key stakeholders in government and industry.
- Experience within the agricultural industry is an asset.
- Some travel required.
- Salary will be commensurate with experience.
