Custodian/Maintenance

**Position Description**:
The Custodian will provide efficient, professional, and high-quality custodial and maintenance services for the Mi’kmaw Family Healing Centre. The Custodian is responsible for the on-going cleanliness and maintenance of the building, ensuring that the facilities and grounds are clean and in good condition and ensuring Occupational Health &
Safety standards are upheld.

**Key Responsibilities**:
- Performs a variety of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks in and around the building.
- Must be able to use a wide variety of equipment such as lawnmower, Whipper snipper, shovel, other gardening tools, general maintenance tools (hammer, screwdrivers etc.) paintbrush, mops, brooms, vacuums, floor buffers and cleaning chemicals.
- Operates, cleans, and maintains custodial tools and equipment for daily use.
- Manage routine upkeep of exterior areas, green space, and parking lot.
- Remove garbage and recycling daily.
- Collect and dispose of trash following approved procedures and infection control plans.
- Handle emergency cleaning and upkeep requests
- Ensure rooms are maintained and fully equipped
- Cleaning and sanitizing washrooms, mirrors, walls, doors, sinks, toilets, partitions, and floors.
- Dust and damp mops floors following approved procedures.
- Move equipment and furniture for proper cleaning and place furniture back in correct placement.
- Clean assigned areas with the use of assigned materials and equipment.
- Wash walls, windows, furniture, baseboards, and other items to maintain a clean, safe environment for residents, visitors, and staff.
- Replenishing and restocking paper and soap supplies.
- Seek out areas requiring cleaning;
take initiative to complete task.
- Complete all task assigned by supervisor.
- Dusting customer and office areas;
ceilings lights, vents,ledges, walls and other areas.
- Change/ clean filters from Venmar and heat pumps
- Sweep, and wet/dry mop floors
- Strip, scrub, buff and refinish floors and shampoo carpets.
- Sanitize furniture
- Vacuum and care for carpeting
- Light maintenance as required
- Move furniture as required
- Ensuring the building and yard security is maintained
- Complete laundry:
bedding, towels, dishcloths, and curtains
- Yard maintenance:
mow, whipper snip, gardening, snow shoveling.
- Ensure OHS standards are practiced and upheld, attending OHS meetings as the representative for the Centre.
- Notify supervisor of major repairs
- Attend staff and unit meetings
- Other duties as directed by supervisor
**Qualifications**:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous custodian, janitorial, or cleaning experience is required.
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification
- Ability to read and understand Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Ability to work well under mínimal supervision.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform all aspects of job.
- Able to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 30lbs.
- Capacity to take direction.
- Strong attention to detail.
**Salary range**:
$39,245.44 - $40,004.12
