Director of Construction - Civil InfrastructureHeavy Civil Contractor looking to add a Regional Leader in the Lower Mainland!A well respected and established heavy civil contractor is looking to add leadership in their BC Operations. They have the strength in their staff on the technical side of civil infrastructure and are looking for a true leader - someone who takes an active interest in furthering the development, mentoring and training of talented people.Leading the team in BC, you will report to the Vice President and have all Field and Office staff as your direct reports. Your primary goal is to ensure that all projects are delivered efficiently, and safely to the satisfaction of clients while maximizing profits. You will support your team through professional development, problem solving and collaboration on the execution of work. Working closely with other leaders, you will lead the growth of the business in BC.Compensation:
$190k to $250k base salary, bonus and benefits Location:
Burnaby, BCCore Responsibilities:
Lead pre-construction and operations while mentoring talent to train and develop high performersProvide oversight on all construction projects to ensure that they are meeting financial and timeline objectives.Utilize software and evaluate systems and processes currently being used and provide suggestions for areas of improvements within project pursuit, planning/resourcing and delivery. Maintain reports which have the status of projects, schedules and profits/projections for the Region.Responsible for coordinating and leading Management Team and Organizational Development Meetings.Provide ongoing training and mentorship for your team so they are more effective with interpersonal, technical and managerial skill sets.Lead immediate post-award meeting with Estimating, Project Management and Site Supervision teams to transition projects to operationsDevelop and oversee operating budgets for all aspects of the business. Produce and authorize all budgets meeting company profit expectations, with the goal of driving cost saving recommendations and solutions.Attend Project Sites regularly and as required.Participate in the recruitment process for hiring new estimating / pre-construction and operations team members alongside HR, support policy implementation and ensure they are adhered to by management.Coordinate, attend and actively participate in weekly operations and department head meetings.Create and oversee a positive culture with sub trades, engineers, owners, consultants, suppliers and local unions to build strong alliances.Proactively manage team performance;
identify training gaps and address these gaps;
and participate in performance reviews, progressive discipline and assessing team salaries.Use your experience to identify health and safety deficiencies, aid in developing solutions, and enforce safe working practicesAll other duties as assigned by the Vice President.Requirements:
10+ years of experience with heavy civil construction industryPost-secondary education in business or construction-related degree/diploma required.Minimum of 5 years in a leadership position within the construction industry preferred.Technologically savvy with an advanced knowledge of MS Suite.Experience or familiarity with project management and accounting software considered an asset.Risk management as it relates to Estimating and Operations including opportunities and tenders, go/no-go decisions, prime contracts, subcontracts, contract deliverable compliance and other legal matters.Highly experienced in general contracting and construction management. Knowledgeable on available resources and market trends that would affect project profitability and/or opportunities.Critical problem solving and major issue resolution skills.Accountability with proven ability to lead pre-construction, construction and post-construction processes while holding the team accountable for cost, time/schedule, and quality.Involvement with clients presenting solutions and concepts that will best meet the needs of the client as required.Ability to develop, communicate and sell innovative ideas and communicate these with staff, clients, consultants, and subcontractors to build long term relationships.Valid driver’s license.
