JOB DESCRIPTION - Sports Centre Driver / Attendant
Reports to:
Sports Centre Facility Operations Supervisor
**Position**
Reports directly to the Facility Operations Supervisor and/or Supervisor on Duty.
Operates Ice Resurfacer during programming and fills out all applicable documentation. Performs general custodial, event operations and customer service duties.
Must be available days, evenings, weekends and some midnights.
**Responsibilities of Sports Centre Driver**:
- Responsible for operating and driving the Zamboni (ice resurfacing machine) and other motorized equipment
- Fills out all supporting documentation applicable to operating ice resurfacer.
- Operate assigned equipment including power scrubbers, power washers, ice painting machines, tractors, trucks, forklifts etc.
- Maintains awareness of ice and building conditions and reports any problems to Operations Manager or Supervisor on Duty in a timely manner to ensure a clean, safe and healthy facility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**Responsibilities of Sports Centre Attendant**:
- Performs a variety of general maintenance duties. Including but not limited to:
custodial duties, equipment set up and removal, minor maintenance including painting of assigned areas of WFA buildings.
- Ensures that all public areas of the Centre are clean, safe and healthy.
- Assist in the preparation of event setups.
- Respond to queries from the customers and provides general information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**Skills and Qualifications**:
- High School Diploma
- Previous Experience in Ice Resurfacing including Olympia and Zamboni
- Must be able to work in a team environment
- Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks without supervision.
- Must be able to assume a positive and active role at the rink, even while working under potentially stressful conditions (weather, upset or injured participants, etc.).
- Must have the ability to be firm with participants when necessary and make sound decisions in order to ensure the safety and well-being of participants, facilities and equipment. An ability to interact and communicate well with others is essential.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively. This will include the ability to complete daily reports.
- Be able to follow safety guidelines and exercise good judgment in all aspects of responsibility.
- Must be physically strong enough to lift and move heavy objects, such as hockey nets.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
**Working Conditions**:
- Prolonged standing and walking.
- Physically demanding - must have the ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Environment - moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity.
- Shifts will include days, afternoons, weekend/holidays. *Overnights may also be required.
