DNA Design Build Limited has been awarded the contract for the design and construction associated with the twinning of Highway 104 to improve the corridor that extends across Eastern Nova Scotia from Sutherlands River to Antigonish.
We have an immediate need for an energetic, motivated individual to take on the position as Environmental Inspector in the **New Glasgow/Antigonish areas**. Reporting to the Environmental Manager, the Environmental Inspector is primarily responsible for inspection and monitoring of a 38 km highway project between New Glasgow and Antigonish. This is an 8-month contract position until approximately August 2023.
**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Conduct environmental monitoring and inspection for compliance with Provincial, Federal, environmental regulations as well as Project contract;
- Collect soil, surface and groundwater samples as per industry protocols;
- Collaborate with contractors/subcontractors on various environmental issues;
- Attend project meetings as required;
- Liaise with regulatory inspectors;
- Prepare daily reports and inspection forms;
- Any other duties as required.
**Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience**:
- A degree or diploma from a recognized university or college in a natural or physical science or engineering with specialization in erosion and sedimentation controls, fisheries biology, aquatic biology, ecology or another related discipline;
- A CISEC certification would be considered an asset;
- A certification in Nova Scotia Watercourse Alteration (sizer and installer) is considered an asset;
- A minimum of 5 - 10 years of related work experience in environmental monitoring/mitigation during highway construction, including the inspection of erosion and sedimentation controls, mitigation techniques while working around watercourses and wetlands;
- Implementation ofsurface and ground water sampling protocols;
- Experience in collaboration with provincial and federal regulators;
- Ability to work as part of an environmental and multidisciplinary team setting;
- Experience with sedimentation and erosion control techniques;
- Strong time and priority management skills;
- Strong analyticaland problem solving skills;
- Professional attitude, punctual, assertive and personable;
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning;
- Ability to respond in pressure situations with a calm demeanor and high sense of urgency;
- Experience preparing reports and detailed inspection forms;
and
- Knowledge of various computer tracking systems such as Sharepoint.
