- Based on the learning needs of student-s course objectives, and accreditation standards, identifies, recruits, reviews, and assesses agencies/organizations for designation as field education placement sites.O Researches, identifies and develops opportunities for field education placements locally, provincially and nationally.O Oversees the development and maintenance of distance placements, provincially and nationally.O Compiles and manages placement assessments and placement database. Conducts placement site visits to ensure placement adherence to field education standards -o Initiates and manages Student Placement Agreement documentation.O Works with students and agencies to develop measurable educational goals and determines whether students and agencies are fulfilling their contractual and educational requirements.O Acts as a liaison between students and agencies to ensure understanding regarding processes, requirements and expectations.O Resolves issues arising from placements, facilitates appropriate and productive relationships between the UBC Okanagan School of Social Work, the placement agency/organization, and the placement student. Liaises with agencies outside of the Okanagan Valley to secure distance placements on behalf of students.Field Education Instructor Orientation, Training, and Support
- In accordance with the UBC Okanagan School of Social Work and Canadian Association for Social Work Education CASWE Accreditation Standards, reviews and assesses agency staff for appointment as Field Education Instructors FEI-s. Develops and delivers training courses for FEI-s;
plans and facilitates access to seminars, workshops, and special events for to ensure the FEI-s have remain current;
communicates changes toSchool policy, procedures, and expectations to FEI-s. Plans, organizes and implements activities and events for FEI-s.Placement Students
- In consultation with students, agencies, and FEI-s, plans for, and completes the process of matching MSW students to field education placements. Conducts student interviews and makes recommendations for appropriate field education placements. With support from faculty members, plans and delivers field preparation and orientation sessions. Provides student advising regarding progression and performance whilst the student is engaged in field education. Acts as Chair of the Field Education Committee, reviews exceptions to policy requests in field education and ensures action on other relevant Committee items, provides alternative options as necessary. Tracks all students assigned to Field Education Liaisons FEL-sand provides guidance and assistance if any concerns and/or difficulties arise. Provides advice and guidance to the Community and Field Education Liaisons in drafting placement student Corrective Action Plans. Approves and appropriately records final field education grades. Disseminates field education office information and updates to students. Monitors placement student compliance - obtaining Student Accident Insurance;
Criminal Record Checks;
and where required the correct work permits.Field Education Program Planning, Coordination, Communication, and External Engagement
- Develops content for the Field Education section of the UBC Okanagan School of Social Work website, including on-line materials and content for FEI-s. Consults with students, FEI-s, FEL-s, and partner agencies on a range of field education issues, to ensure clarity on policies and expectations. Maintains positive community relationships and conducts community outreach with partner agencies. Develops policy, procedures standards and corresponding materials to facilitate the field education processes. Annually evaluates the School's field education program effectiveness and makes improvement recommendations to the Director, SSW, and the SSW Field Education Committee. Undertakes an annual review of the Field Education Handbook, making edits and updates as required. Develops and maintains business continuity and emergency management plans to properly manage a range of emergencies. Develops curricula and other materials, e.G., learning contracts, evaluations, and reporting which appropriately reflects the objectives and standards of field education and supports the learning experiences of placement students. Attends planning meetings and other meetings as required to meet the needs of community partners and students
- Assists with preparing for accreditation visits and reviews as required.Other Duties
- Provides additional supervision to students where an MSW is required. Provides occasional coverage for clinical supervision to students in UBC's Interprofessional Clinic. When directed by the Director, School of Social work, performs other duties as directed.CONSEQUENCE OF ERRORMust exercise tact and diplomacy in interacting with students, staff, alumni, and faculty from the UBC Okanagan Campus, as well as community organizations and individual community members. Incorrect or inappropriate decisions adversely affect student progress, relationships with placement sites and directly affect the reputation and the credibility of the School of Social Work and of UBC locally, nationally, and internationally.SUPERVISION GIVENResponsible for the management of the Community and Field Education Liaisons and the Assistant Field Education Coordinator. The Field Education Coordinator will work as the senior member of this team and will provide support and mentorship to other team members as appropriate.QUALIFICATIONSUndergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. A Bachelor s degree in social work required, MSW preferred. Minimum of three to four years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of the professional social work community within the Okanagan Valley and current social work practice and policy trends nationally. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills must be creative, diplomatic, patient, tactful, culturally sensitive, etc..Excellent multi-tasking, problem-solving and policy development, interpretation and implementation skills.Demonstrated information technology skills including word processing, web-based database management, simple graphics software, and Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint are required.Demonstrated ability to operate efficiently in the organization and interact constructively with students, faculty, staff, the professional community and the general public.Demonstrated ability to work with and respect individuals from diverse cultures, ethnic and minority racial groups, and lifestyles.Reference
