The Fire Inspector position is located in Meaford at the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre and typically reports directly to the Fire Chief. Their primary focus is responsible for carrying out fire inspections in accordance with the CFFM's ITM requirements and emergency operations in accordance with the NFPA standards.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conduct fire inspections in accordance with the ITM requirements while completing and maintaining relevant documentation
- Keep current proficiency with all codes and standards related to fire inspection and the requirements of the Canadian Forces Fire Marshal's (CFFM) office
- Coordinate an Emergency Evacuation Organization to include Building Trustees, Chief Fire Wardens and Fire Wardens to ensure completion of monthly inspections
- Ensure all deficiencies noted within fire inspections and Emergency Evacuation Organization are corrected in a timely manner
- Act as technical advisor to the Project Authority in fire related matters and be prepared to answer questions factually
- Monitor all construction projects to ensure fire code compliance
- Maintain an availability for on-call duties as required
- Respond to various types of emergencies and perform duties within the NFPA standards
- Maintain and inspect fire department vehicles and equipment on a routine basis in conjunction with NFPA standards
- Conduct various lessons and participate in emergency response team training
- In the absence of the Fire Chief be prepared to assume roles directly related to the incident Chain of Command

**EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**
- Must have an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent
The following certifications/designations are considered an asset
- Knowledge of DND policies and procedures is an additional asset
**WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**
- 2 years' experience as Level 2 Fire Inspector. Experience on a DND establishment preferred
- NFPA 1031 Plan Examiner Level 1, Fire Inspector, Level 1 and 2 with ability to achieve Level 3
- NFPA 1051 Wildland Fire Fighter Level 2 or Provincial equivalent
- NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter Level 1 or Equivalent
- NFPA 472 Operations Level
- Incident Command Systems (ISC) 100 or equivalent
**SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS**
- Ontario D License with Z (air brake) endorsement. Must possess a clear driver's abstract;
and must be able to obtain and maintain a military 404 driving license
- Organization and time management
- Excellent oral and written communications skills (English)
- Must hold a Level 2 Security Clearance or be eligible to obtain one
- MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
