**Government Relations Officer**
Scope:
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Develop and execute comprehensive government relations strategies that support Egg Farmers of Canada’s business objectives
- Keeps abreast of the strategic direction of the federal government, including parliamentary committees, opposition parties and key departments
- Monitors House of Commons, Senate and departmental activities, such as bills, motions, studies and consultations
- Manages correspondence with MPs, Senators, political staffers and some departmental staff on issues of importance to Canada’s egg sector, and assists in building strong relationships
- Drafts presentations to government, letters to ministers and key officials, briefs, speaking points, consultation submissions and other content on an as needed basis
- Ensures consistency and clarity throughout all government relations activities and messaging
- Prepares Egg Farmers of Canada leadership for meetings with government officials, advocacy days and committee appearances
- Organizes annual events to reach elected officials. Attends functions and meeting on behalf of Egg Farmers of Canada
- Collaborates with partners, stakeholders and colleagues on opportunities and engagements that include government relations activities
- Ensures that Egg Farmers of Canada’s is in compliance with the Lobbyist Registration Act
- Manages and liaises with external service providers, consultants and virtual teams to advance projects and programs
**Qualifications/Skills**:
- A strong understanding of the federal government and parliamentarian process
- Superior communications skills (written and interpersonal)
- An understanding of agriculture, food and environmental policy
- A responsive and result-oriented self-starter, and a consummate team player
- Ability to foster strategic relationships
- Experience managing external service providers
- Keen judgement and sound decision-making
- Tact and diplomacy
**Education and Experience**:
- Minimum four years of government relations, advocacy or related experience
- A Master’s degree in political science, communications or a related field
- Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset
