AECOM’s Burnaby office is currently seeking an experienced Intermediate Fisheries Biologist or Aquatic Ecologist to join our Impact Assessment and Permitting team within our Environment Business Line.
**The role entails**:
**Managing and Conducting**:
+ Project tasks, including the design, and management of aquatic studies including fieldwork, oversight of field staff, data analysis and reporting
+ Prepare aquatic related environmental impact assessments
+ Developing fish and fish habitat mitigation and enhancement plans
+ Provide professional guidance and expertise for fisheries and aquatic ecosystem related projects
+ Delivery of quality reports on budget and schedule
**In addition to**:
+ Participating in multi-disciplined teams conducting environmental assessments, project permitting, field surveys, and construction monitoring
+ Experience working in remote locations
+ Coordinating and preparing environmental approvals and permits required for projects including Federal, Provincial and Municipal permits
+ Preparing health and safety and quality management plans
+ Contributing to broader, interdisciplinary teams for major infrastructure, power, mining and oil and gas opportunities
+ Proposal development
+ Interacting with other offices across Canada and other business lines (i.E. Water Infrastructure and Transportation)

Minimum Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology or Conservation with 2 or more years of relevant experience (Western Canadian experience preferred)
+ Experience managing and conducting fisheries resource studies, including fish habitat restoration and enhancement planning,
+ Experience with techniques for sampling water, fish (i.E. electrofishing certificate) and other aquatic organisms (periphyton, zooplankton, benthic invertebrates, etc.)
+ Experience with marine and freshwater environments
+ Strong understanding of federal and provincial environmental legislation and policies
+ Must be able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork
+ Attention to all safety standards applicable to each project
+ Willingness to work flexible hours under a variety of conditions including remote field locations
+ Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with GIS software
+ Possess Class 5 drivers’ license require
+ As a minimum, must be registered as a Biologist in Training with the BC College of Applied Biology but ideally, a Registered Professional with the College of Applied Biology
Preferred Qualifications
+ 4 or more years of relevant experience (Western Canadian experience preferred)
+ Master’s degree considered an asset and counts toward relevant experience
+ Attention to all safety standards applicable to each project
+ Ability to manage time effectively in a dynamic work environment
+ Strong initiative and able to work through complex problems with little oversight
+ Valid level 1 First Aid, ATV/UTV/Argo, and other safety courses an asset
