**Your Opportunity**:
As a Laboratory Assistant I, you are part of a public health laboratory team responsible for performing routine and specialized specimen processing while adhering to laboratory standard operating procedures and laboratory accreditation requirements. You will plan and organize your work responsibilities to receive specimens, perform pre-analytical specimen processing, and distribute specimens for laboratory testing and investigation. Specific accountabilities include:
operation of technical equipment, equipment maintenance, preparing specimens for testing, storage, and transport, assisting with the training of staff and students as required, and providing customer service support. You will use your knowledge and demonstrated understanding of quality systems to participate in quality control/maintenance functions and quality improvement activities. You ensure work processes are carried out with patient and staff safety as a priority. You may be required to train to perform Laboratory Assistant I functions in other areas of the lab.
**Description**:
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Graduate from a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent, which includes specimen handling. One-year Beaker CP Lab Processor experience. One-year public health lab experience. A combination of related education and experience may be considered. Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office. Knowledge of WHMIS and SDS. Manual dexterity for manipulation of specimens. Must be able to give and follow verbal and written direction in English.
