The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.
**We are recruiting a temporary, full-time, Landscaping &
Groundskeeping Worker in Lower Mainland &
Fraser Valley. **Job duties included maintaining and cleaning outdoor facilities, trimming overgrown hedges and shrubbery, planting flowers shrubs, mowing, weeding and mulching landscape beds and watering lawns and gardens.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Keep grounds of residential programs assigned in neat and orderly conditions with
- extracting weeds, cut grass, prune, and trim trees and bushes, edge flower beds and
- remove litter and dispose of trash.
- Provide care for plants and shrubs, fertilizing, feeding plants and spreading topsoil if necessary.
- Plant and maintain the landscaped areas as assigned, including mow grass, rake, mulch and compost leaves and keep ground free of other debris.
- Operates the necessary equipment to maintain landscaped areas such as lawn mowers,trimmers, sod cutters, leaf blowers and chainsaws.
- Cleans patio, garage, sweeping residential program walkways and provides upkeep of planters
- Water lawns, plants using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans.
- Plant greenery to improve landscape appearance.
- Assist with indoor maintenance such as minor repairs and other general maintenance works.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Be a current post-secondary student, or student who will be attending a post-secondary institution in the fall/winter of 2023.
- Be physically fit, and be comfortable using tools, including shovels, rakes hammers and lawn implements.
- Have experience in landscaping and demonstrates proficiency and experience in lawn care using push-mower, general maintenance, trimming, blowing and among others.
- Knowledge of horticulture, landscaping and/or agronomy.
- Demonstrates love of outdoors and plant life and good creativity and visualization skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations of landscaping.
- Must be available for the full duration of 8 weeks.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to remain on your feet for long periods of time.
- Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status.
- Doctor’s note of fitness required.
- Occupational First Aid Certificate required.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Children and Vulnerable Sector Search).
