The Manager, Climate Strategy, will report to the Director, Climate Strategy, will be responsible for leading initiatives that reduce Choice’s energy and greenhouse gas emissions across our portfolio of retail, industrial, office and residential properties. This integral role on the Sustainability team will provide you with the opportunity to have a significant environmental impact at one of Canada’s largest real estate portfolios by working with internal stakeholders and industry experts across a variety of property types.

Responsibilities:
Create and execute a plan to reduce energy use and emissions to support the company’s climate strategy for our existing operations and new developments
Analyze and prioritize projects that cut energy and emissions, like upgrades and changes to how we operate
Prepare well-structured reports and present to senior executives to guide decisions
Deliver education and training of team members in other business units to enable the implementation of decarbonization projects
Manage external consultants to provide and report ongoing performance data for review on future projects
Coordinate approved energy and emissions reduction capital projects and manage incentive applications for capital projects
Provide technical guidance for the implementation of energy and carbon reduction retrofits, metering, data collection and solar projects
Establish and improve methods for the measurement and verification of reductions
Provide technical guidance and work collaboratively with the development team on design strategies that meet decarbonization goals

Job Qualifications:
6+ years of experience in energy management for various types of real estate (retail, industrial, or multi-unit residential), with a successful history of reducing energy usage and emissions
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, such as mechanical, systems, electrical, or related fields
Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Measurement &
Verification Professional (CMVP), CCP (Certified Commissioning Professional) accreditation an asset
Expertise with building energy and carbon reduction strategies, data analytics and sustainability practices in addition to metering
Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically PowerPoint and Excel
Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively manage and lead projects and programs involving internal stakeholders
Collaborative, adaptable and strong interpersonal skills with ability to work with colleagues across different functions and levels of the organization
