Control** to join our National Accounting team.

If you are ready to use your designation and years of experience to play a key role in providing strong accounting leadership and transforming the accounting team’s processes, then this is the role for you!
Reporting to the Director of Accounting &
Control, this position will be an integral part of the financial statement close process, with the responsibility for overseeing the period end close and maintaining the appropriate controls and balance sheet support. Working primarily in a team environment that is challenging and provides the opportunity to learn and grow, this role has a strong focus on driving process improvement change initiatives.
**Here’s where you’ll be focusing**:
- Oversee the period end close process, with strong collaboration and communication with various finance teams
- Leverage your strong accounting knowledge to provide guidance/assistance to your team during the financial statement close, and lead the resolution of accounting issues
- Coach and guide your team to build expertise and knowledge, and provide indirect leadership to the full team of analysts in their day-to-day duties with a focus on increasing the abilities, knowledge, and efficiency of the team
- Implement continuous improvement principles and simplification initiatives, and challenge the status quo, to improve financial/business processes while ensuring the integrity of financial data
- Focus on harmonizing processes, identifying automation opportunities, and identifying addressing root causes for inefficiencies
- Review key accounting working papers that support account balances
- Collaborate with internal and external audit to support ongoing audit requirements
- Ensure compliance with CEO/CFO certification, and compliance with Sobeys Inc. accounting policies and IFRS
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, where your teammates are encouraged and recognized for generating and implementing innovative ideas
**What you have to offer**:
- Post Secondary Education and professional accounting designation (CPA)
- 8+ years of Accounting/ Finance experience
- Experience managing and coaching a team
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong process improvement and internal control
- Strong analytical skills
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a high standard of accuracy
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build positive relationships
- Knowledge of accounting standards IFRS
- Knowledge of SAP preferred
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel and PowerPoint)
