As a **Museum Security Guard**, the primary responsibility will be the preservation and protection of the museum's exhibition of artworks, alongside ensuring the security and safety of the museum's assets, visitors, and staff. This role demands high levels of vigilance, attention to detail, and respect for cultural and artistic assets.
**Responsibilities**
- Prioritize the safeguarding of the museum's collection of artwork, ensuring their safety from theft, damage, or any form of interference
- Provide consistent surveillance of artworks, visitors, staff, and museum property
- Stay current with the daily schedule of events
- Control and monitor access to the museum and orient visitors to the museum
- Answering visitor questions concerning exhibits, wayfinding, and facilities and liaising with Visitor Experience Guides when it comes to visitor engagement and exhibition questions
- Conduct routine patrols of the museum premises. May include outdoor areas from time to time
- Detect, investigate, and respond to potential interference of artwork, fire and safety hazards
- Ensuring visitors follow museum rules
- Complete reports as needed
- Review the museum's surveillance systems when needed
- Manage traffic and visitor wayfinding within the museums
- Provide crowd control and security during museum events, including weekends and holidays
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor
**Skills and Qualifications**
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a security role
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must be able to work regular weekends, evenings, holidays and special events
- Conflict resolution/de-escalation and anti-oppression training is an asset
- Must have the ability to be both friendly and commanding in communication
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of individuals
- Physically capable of standing and walking for extended periods, as well as responding to emergencies swiftly
- First aid certification is an asset
- Smart Serve certification is an asset
