Reporting to the Manager of Community Safety, the Operations Lead provides day-to-day operational leadership to Downtown Van’s Safety Ambassador and Clean Team programs. Responsible for ensuring a high-functioning, fully trained team committed to the mission, vision, and guiding principles of Downtown Van. This role collaborates and communicates with key stakeholders to effectively support the development and implementation of the program. Note that this is a temporary, 12-month, full-time position for a maternity coverage.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOperationsCollaborates with the Manager of Community Safety to ensure the Community Safety team is informed of all matters required to safely perform their role.Provides daily task supervision, coaching and advice to the Downtown Safety Ambassadors and Clean Team as required ensuring the program is meeting organizational goals.Oversees all aspects of the Community Safety program including, but not limited to, staff scheduling, payroll, inventory restocking, meeting management, training initiatives and professional development opportunities.Develops and delivers clear and accurate written and/or oral presentations on department updates, data and trends, effectively communicating key information and insights to partners and stakeholders.Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.As part of the emergency response preparedness, alongside the Manager of Community Safety, the Operations Lead will help develop and implement protocols for handling medical incidents, natural disasters, or security threats. This includes coordinating with local authorities, conducting regular emergency training and ensuring that team members are trained to respond effective to any situations that may.Community SafetyWorks with Downtown Van Manager of Community Safety to promote industry best practices as they relate to the safety of Downtown Van’s membership and communicates this information through presentations, literature site reviews, and reporting writing.Be a resource to Downtown Van’s membership by answering questions or inquiries to internal and external resources as required.Assist in accurate reporting and inputting data of all Downtown Van approved electronic platforms.In the absence of the Manager of Community Safety, ensure the Downtown Van Senior Management team is kept informed on issues, concerns and possible liabilities.Leadership and DevelopmentWorks in collaboration with the Manager of Community Safety to continually assess productivity and make recommendations to increase output and efficiency.With the Manager of Community Safety, conduct annual reviews of all program staff and provide ongoing, balanced feedback as necessary for development and optimal performance.Under the direction of the Manager of Community Safety and assistance for the Community Safety Supervisor, lead recruitment and selection of new program staff, and ensures successful onboarding of new team members.Serves as the department’s Health and Safety representative.Attends Downtown Van industry events and models behaviours necessary to support a respectful workplace.Follow and promote all Downtown Van policies and procedures and seek clarification as required.This position will actively support the professional development of team members by identifying training opportunities, facilitating skill-building workshops, and encouraging participation in relevant continuing education. This commitment to ongoing learning will foster a culture of continuous improvement and career advancement within the community safety.QualificationsUniversity Degree and/or College Diploma or certificate required. Education in Community and Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Criminology, Business Management, and Human Resources Management is considered an asset.You have 2+ years of operational leadership including recruitment and selection experience.Fluency in Office 365, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to quickly learn new online platforms.A BC Security License is required.Working ConditionsPrimarily office-based during regular business hours but must be willing to adjust hours depending on operations requirements.Ability to be available to answer calls and messages after hours when required.While primarily office-based, must be willing to be outdoors with the team when required.Here at Downtown Van, we are passionate, collaborative, fun, and fast-paced!
