We are looking for a Quality Assurance and Quality Control Technician at our Walker Emulsions Division Production Facility - Burlington location.
**Quality Assurance and Quality Control Technician**
You will be successful in this role if you are attentive to detail, methodical in your workflow, and enjoy problem solving. Your primary goal will be performing a variety of quality control duties to assist in the effective and efficient operations of the plant while maintaining a focus on safety. Your day-to-day tasks would include following established procedures to sample and test products.
In this role, you will report to the Manager of Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC). You will work with Research &
Development (R&
D), Product Development, and production operations teams to enhance product quality. The position is full-time and based at the production facility in Burlington, ON.
**As a Quality Assurance and Quality Control Technician, you will be**
- Gathering samples from the process and finished good tanks to ensure representative samples are tested.
- Compiling records, interpreting experimental and analytical results, adding results to the database, issuing COA’s (certificate of analysis), and periodically monitoring Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts.
- Developing and conducting programs for sampling and analysis to maintain quality standards of raw materials, chemical intermediates, and finished products.
- Preparing solutions and reagents according to American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), test methods, and formulations.
- Operating laboratory equipment and apparatus, maintaining them and keeping the areas clean while following the Health and Safety Manual guidelines.
- Setting up and conducting chemical experiments while maintaining instrument calibration records.
- Following the production of new formulations or new processes on site (trials) to support R&
D, Technical Sales, and Operations, keeping records to track any variation causes that might occur.
- Supporting R&
D by preparing laboratory batches or samples to assist with new formulations or new processes.
- Assisting in resolving customer complaint investigations related to finished products quality and writing technical reports to keep records and avoid reoccurrence.
- Assisting in inspection, maintenance, and development of standards, procedures, and health and safety measures and environmental monitoring and protection activities.
**Qualifications for this role include**
**Experience**:
- 1-2 years of quality assurance or quality control (QA/QC) laboratory experience or multiple terms of co-op program experience
- Preferred QA/QC experience in an industrial manufacturing setting
- Preferred experience in the chemical industry, asphalt/asphalt emulsion manufacturing/production, or closely related industry.
- WHMIS2015 (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) or GHS knowledge (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals).
**Education**:
- A college diploma or B.Sc. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or quality control/assurance is required.
- Experience in chemical industry, asphalt, or wood composite industry will be considered in lieu of a completed technical degree.
**License and Travel**:
- A valid driver’s license in good standing is required for this position.
- Traveling 1-2 times per year to other Walker locations
- Valid travel documents are required for domestic travel.
- Valid travel documents to travel to the USA would be an asset but are not required.
**Schedule**:
- Day shift but will require variable schedule for days to swing shift to meet coverage for production shift (day production is 6am-3pm and swing production is 12pm-9pm). Exact hours will vary during high volume season, normally the summer.
**Environment**:
- Role is daily working within a lab at a manufacturing plant with mínimal exposure to dust, temperature variance and other sensory attributes.
- Occasionally work is performed in the plant environment. There is moderate exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, heat, cold and other sensory attributes when in the plant.
