The Recreationist develops knowledge about participants in order to respond to their individual and group needs through a process of formal and informal assessment. The Recreationist plan, implements, facilitates, and evaluates individual and group programs suited to the individual needs of the participants. Provides input to the monthly calendar of events utilizing program planning and development. The Recreationist contributes to participant care plan with attention to goals and measurable outcomes. The position also works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team with the focus on the resident’s best interests. Emphasizes and encourages participation utilizing resident centered approaches tailoring to their abilities, needs, interests, and values.
**Skills and Qualifications Required**:
- Minimum 2 year college diploma or post diploma certificate in recreation and/or leisure studies, or therapeutic recreation
- or, active enrollment in such a field of study and completion will be obtained within 1 year
- or, current registration with recognized therapeutic recreation association in Ontario
- Eligibility for registration with recognized therapeutic recreation association in Ontario within one year
- DementiAbility and GPA preferred
**Position Responsibilities**:
- Plans, implements and evaluates individual programs, group programs and community outings suited to the individual needs of the residents on the assigned unit and consistent with the overall activity program
- Acquires knowledge about residents in order to respond to their individual and group needs through a process of formal and informal assessment
- Transport residents to and from activities, on and off the units
- Assists with orientation, ongoing supervision and evaluation (if required) of volunteers and students
- Adapts recreation interventions and programs to the changing needs of residents.
