By working with SLICE, industry and community partners can capture new opportunities, solve everyday problems and realize economic, social and environmental benefits. SLICE’s collaborative approach brings together the expertise needed to address complex issues related to sustainability.
Based at the Regina campus of Saskatchewan Polytechnic, the Research Associate will work with industry and community partners under the direction of the Research Chair in Geospatial Technologies to organize and conduct applied research with a focus on remote sensing and the use of geographic information systems to address land use and sustainability challenges. Many of these projects involve collaborative partnerships with Indigenous communities.

Reporting to the Research Chair in Geospatial Technologies, the Research Associate will be involved in multiple applied research project where they will be a key contributor to the research team in a technical and/or project management role. The Research Associate will work closely with colleagues to scope projects, write grant proposals, undertake research including fieldwork and data analysis, and communicate research results. We are seeking an enthusiastic team member with an affinity for geospatial technology and creative problem solving. This is a full-time position for four (4) years based on length of grant funding.
- QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE**Specific Accountabilities**
- 1. In conjunction with the Research Chair, contribute to development of research objectives, scope projects, and write project/grant proposals;
2. Under mínimal guidance, conduct applied research tasks utilizing methodologies suitable to the research question using geospatial technologies;
3. Work within project timelines to ensure project progress and success;
4. Provide training, supervision and mentorship to student research assistants and technologists;
5. Collaborate withresearch team members to choose research methods and experimental approaches;
6. Operate a variety of geospatial equipment, including drones, sensors, ground penetration radar, and TLS in fieldwork settings;
7. Assess, interpret, and evaluate geospatial data to answer research questions;
8. Actively participate in meetings with partner organizations (may include industry, government, Indigenous communities, non-profit organizations, academic collaborators and others) and act as primary point of contact when delegated;
9. Contribute to preparation of reports of completed projects for partners, publication in technical journals, community presentations, or other knowledge mobilization activities;
10. Collaborate with internal and external contacts such as educational, funding, and research bodies;
11. Implement safety protocols related to the area of research and assist with any permitting requirements for fieldwork;
12. Contribute to creating a positive, diverse, and inclusive work and learning environment;
13. Willing to travel for field data collection, and presentations as required.

- 1. A diploma and/or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as Geomatics, GIS and/or Remote Sensing) or a comparable amount of education and experience. A graduate degree in a related discipline would be considered an asset in combination with a technical diploma and/
