**About Potash**:
In 2021, BHP approved a CA$7.5 billion investment in Jansen Stage 1 in Saskatchewan, Canada, which is aligned with their strategy of growing exposure to future facing commodities in world-class assets. The project is expected to produce 4.35 million tonnes of potash per year with initial production targeted for 2027, ramping up to full production over two years. Jansen potash project is located approximately 140 km southeast of Saskatoon. Potash opens a new front for growth and is an expandable resource that can support a century or more of operations. Potash provides BHP with greater diversification by commodity, country, and customer.
**Purpose**:
BHP’s Our Requirements for Communications, Community and External Engagement requires all our operated assets to implement actions to better understand communities, effectively plan and implement our commitments and evaluate and measure our performance. This standard outlines the mandatory minimum performance requirements for social research and studies, including social impact and opportunity assessments;
human rights impact assessments;
community perception surveys;
engagement activities;
and complaints and grievance mechanisms. The day-to-day implementation of the requirements is managed by Corporate Affairs team members across BHP.
The **Specialist Corporate Affairs Potash** is a member of the Corporate Affairs team, and reports to the Manager Corporate Affairs Potash. The Specialist contributes to the strategic management and execution of Potash’s stakeholder management strategies, plans and initiatives to fulfil BHP’s commitments to communities.
Key accountabilities:
- Identifies, engages, and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Plans, tracks the delivery of and manages corporate affairs and community relations initiatives, activities, and projects that generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes
- Sources information, plans and conducts analyses to support evidence-based decision making in alignment with longer term business objectives
- Engages the capabilities of the entire organization to fulfil BHP’s commitments and purpose
- Identifies and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework, and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and mutually beneficial performance outcomes
**About the Role**:
Provides specialist level expertise on community related management programs/initiatives/studies and stakeholder management by:
- Seeking to understands stakeholder needs by engaging with stakeholders and asking questions to understand needs/goals
- Managing both internal and external stakeholder expectations with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Participating on cross-functional teams and community/stakeholder committees, associations, and chambers, as appropriate
- Developing and leveraging stakeholder relationships to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes/results that align with BHP Charter Values
- Critical thinking and analysis to draw insights, trends, and concepts from a wide range of sources and present findings in a format that enables a variety of stakeholders to easily grasp difficult or complex issues
- Supporting planning and implementing work and resources, including recommending activities, studies, and budget required to be successful
- Identifying issues, dependencies and solutions to mitigate associated risks or challenges with a relationship, initiative, or project. Also identify opportunities and partnerships to enhance a relationship, initiative, or project
- Adapting plans to changing conditions and context, identifying, and sharing new risks and opportunities with the team
- Listening and clearly conveying information and updates, uses different communication methods to ensure others understanding the context, purpose, objectives, resources and time frame for work and tasks
- Collaborating with other external affairs function members, including communications, indigenous engagement, social investment, and ethics and compliance, among others
- Acting respectfully and fairly with all team members and stakeholders, embracing differences so that everyone feels cared for and included
