**ABOUT US**

**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**
Reporting to the Supervisor, Payroll Accounting, the Payroll Accounting Specialist is responsible for the reconciliation of payroll accounts and remittances of payroll taxes to various government agencies, the development and delivery of detailed payroll accounting documentation (training materials, process documents, etc.) and the continued support of the overall payroll team.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Remit all regulatory remittances in a timely fashion and reconcile/balance on a quarterly basis.
- Liaise with government agencies (such as Canada Revenue Agency, Service Canada, WCB/WSIB, etc.).
- Responsible for the reconciliation of all payroll General Ledger accounts.
- Prepare accounting journal entries when required, along with the appropriate analysis involved with such preparation.
- Research and respond to third party audit inquiries and internal operational inquiries on a timely basis.
- Assist with year-end processing, validation and balancing of T4’s, T4A’s, Releve 1’s, W2’s and year end filings to applicable government bodies.
- Recognize opportunities and have the knowledge to make recommendations for change.
- Maintain key internal control documentation.
- Document payroll and payroll accounting processes.
- Facilitate sessions with stakeholders to identify and deliver process improvements.
**OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide payroll administration back-up as required.
- Provide second-level support on escalation of customer service and vendor related service issues.
- Deliver training related to day-to-day tasks and project initiatives to payroll administrators.
- Respond to customer enquiries and process Payroll, HR transactions.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of improved processes and procedures.
- Work with Internal and External Auditors, provide documentation as required
- Work on projects and process improvements as required.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS &
TRAINING NEEDS**
- 3 - 5 years of direct experience in construction/unionized payrolls.
- Post-secondary school education in an accounting related field.
- Enrolled in accounting designation program (CPA).
- Enrolled in or completion of CPA payroll designation course preferred.
- Above average working knowledge of an integrated management information computer system, such as SAP.
- Possess a high attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity.
- Ability to multi-task and work under tight time lines.
- Technical systems skills, as relates to payroll/HR, with third party payroll providers and HR/Payroll systems.
- Strong communication skills and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, probe, analyze, and solve complex problems.
