Reporting to the Manager of Professional Student Services (PSS), the Supervisor, School Counselling and Social Work Services is responsible to develop, organize and direct the delivery of equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive counseling and social work services required for students. The job works in collaboration with internal and external partners to ensure that mental health and well-being supports are available which support student achievement in alignment with the Thames Valley DSB Operational Plan.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Develops and ensures an equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive School Counseling and Social Work Services delivery model in accordance with evidence-informed practice and professional/scholarly research that is adopted to support students who may be struggling with a wide range of mental health concerns, adverse childhood experiences, social-emotional challenges, and school reengagement
- Builds the capacity of School Counseling and Social Work Professionals to implement leading practices in the provision of service delivery options with respect to assessment, and intervention
- Contributes as the designated lead for student attendance issues supporting all district social workers in their role as attendance counselors and the implementation of student re-engagement strategies
- Provides clinical guidance to social work staff to implement the service delivery model which includes support for students and school-based staff and caregivers
- In collaboration with the Manager, develops and monitors staffing allocations to school to allow equitable distribution of services to address student needs and advance strategic priorities
- Consults and collaborates with the Special Education management team, Learning Support Services (LSS) and school-based leaders in order to ensure that school counseling and social work supports and services are delivered effectively
- Provides supervision (work assignments, directs, monitors, and evaluates) of School Counseling and Social Work staff, ensuring that the professional practice of
- regulated Health Care Practitioners is in compliance with relevant legislation and professional college requirements to provide evidence-informed services to students
- Participate in the recruitment and hiring of School Counseling and Social Work staff
- Provides and manages mentorship for new staff and monitor and evaluates performance of existing staff
- Develops and adjusts staff assignments to schools to create caseloads that meet student needs and enable staff to advance district priorities
- Consults and collaborates with Human Resources on complex management, performance and discipline issues
- Provides clinical support to social work staff for the management of complex student care
- Liaises with local universities to facilitate clinical placements for MSW students
- Collaborates with the District’s Manager of Student Mental Health to respond to tragic events through the management and coordination of the Tragic Events Response Team (TERT) in accordance with the TVDSB guidelines to ensure support for students, families, and staff
- Supports the collaboration with local Children’s Aid Societies CAS) to ensure the TVDSB meets its legislative responsibilities regarding the protection of children and youth and coordinates supports and services for students in the care of the CAS as outlined in the Joint Protocol for Student Achievement (JPSA)
- Contributes to internal district communication, planning and budget development
- Develops and leads professional development for district leaders and front-line staff
- Ensures the social determinants of mental health and their impact on student’s academic, social, emotional, and cognitive development are advanced through district strategic priorities and community partnerships in order to provide equitable inclusive and culturally relevant social work services to students
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Master’s Degree in Social Work
- Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers
**EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE**:
- Five (5) years of relevant work experience
- Training and/or experience in management in the field of educational social work preferred
