- JOB SUMMARY Act as a consultant and research person and co-ordinate functions of the Public Health Inspectors for the Niagara Falls/St. Catharines/Welland Office. Provide functional guidance to Public Health Inspectors. Collaborate, partner and act as liaison with other community agencies to ensure provision of co-ordinated and efficient services. The Public Health Inspectors' primary responsibility is to provide a comprehensive health and environmental program in the community. Using a variety of skills, the team leader provides assistance for public health inspectors to protect individual and community wellness through health promotion activities and enforcement of provincial acts, regulations, and compliance with the mandatory programs and services guidelines. These activities are performed under the direction of the Managers and Director of Health Protection and Promotion. The Team Leader/Public Health Inspector (PHI) help reduce the incidence of communicable disease and health hazards, perform technical assessments, provide consultative and educational services and ensure that community development does not conflict with a healthy environment. The Team Leader/Public Health Inspector identify hazards in residential, recreational, commercial, social and industrial premises;
provide information andtraining on contemporary alternatives and techniques. The Team Leader/PHI respond to changing environmental issues, investigate complaints, inspect premises, assess and approve plans to ensure compliance with pertinent legislation. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION A certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada)/degree from a recognized academic institution which is recognized by the Board of Certification, followed by a 3-month period of internship in a recognized Public Health Agency and the successful completion of certification by the CPHI Board. KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE Minimum 3-5 years experience working in public health inspection.Team leader experience is preferred.Must demonstrate excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).Computer skills an asset.Proven skills in investigation, interviewing and the delivery of Public Health Inspection programs. SKILLSN/A SPECIAL CONDITIONS Must be self-directed and have proven leadership skills. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to the class of vehicle operated.
