MBW Courier Inc. (“MBW”), is a Nova Scotia-based company, servicing businesses across Atlantic Canada, offering same day delivery service, direct to consumer delivery, next day delivery service, dedicated service on demand and logistics through its eight strategically located terminals. MBW is part of the Municipal Group of Companies, which is a diversified organization engaged in all major aspects of heavy civil construction, mining, environmental and transportation services within the Atlantic Provinces. MBW is currently looking for a **Terminal Manager **based out of **Truro, NS.**
**Position Summary**:
As Terminal Manager, you will oversee the efficient operation of all functions within the terminal You’ll be a strategic thinker striving for excellence with customer service levels, employee engagement and financial performance. Duties typically include coordinating freight, verifying, and reviewing paperwork such as bills of lading, assigning responsibilities to employees, enforcing compliance policies, and communicating with customers to provide updates and resolve issues. This position is typically within the hours of 7am-4pm but may require some flexibility to meet operational requirements.
**Primary Duties and Responsibilities include**:
Operations:
- Direct supervision of approximately 50 terminal employees.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the terminal and provide daily support to all employees ensuring quality and budget performance.
- Monitor and direct all pick up and delivery activities, including tracking, routing, and dispatching transportation vehicles.
- Plan and manage the Terminal Capital Budget for each fiscal year, ensuring the effective use and allocation of asset resources.
- Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of physical property through regular inspections and preventative maintenance programs.
- Hire, train, and develop a strong terminal team. Ensures employees have the skill level, training, experience, and knowledge to perform their job functions and responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s standards, legislation, and contract obligations.
- Schedule staff efficiently to ensure customers’ needs are met and seasonal fluctuations in business are addressed.
- Establish and communicate performance standards and objectives;
conducts performance appraisals.
- Formulate both short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Senior Operations Manager/Director.
- Monitor budget and operating metrics while diagnosing and improving methods, procedures, structure, and additions or changes in personnel to secure optimum utilization of resources.
- Conduct regular self-audit exercises to evaluate and confirm compliance with all company and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular employee meetings, keeps staff informed of current or potential problems, changes, new developments and to provide two-way communication to review processes and resolve issues.
- Monitor department work productivity, reports on trends, and recommends and implements changes to continually improve work productivity.
- Review payroll hours to ensure overtime hours are necessary and all employees are working efficiently.
- Coordinate with maintenance to ensure preventative maintenance on equipment is performed in a timely manner.
- Perform route audits to ensure safe and efficient procedures are followed;
identify possible training needs, route efficiency and coach drivers and helpers.
- Monitor and manage the GPS system for idling and engine off time.
- Review and address productivity issues.
- Approve timecards/ Pending Payroll
- Liaise with customer service to expediently resolve customer issues.
Health, Safety and Environment:
- Monitor and ensure that employees are performing their functions safely and productively. Makes recommendations for changes or improvement, as needed, to prevent accident(s) or injuries.
- Responsible for ensuring that the operation complies with a variety of federal and provincial laws that regulate the trucking and transportation industry, including regulations governing drug and alcohol testing, driver qualifications, hours of service, employee safety and health standards, vehicle safety standards and transportation of hazardous materials. Terminal managers must ensure drivers are aware of and comply with these rules
- Ensure implementation and compliance of the Company’s HSE policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Work with the Environmental Health and Safety team investigating and conducting root cause analysis of safety and incidents.
- Ensure Safety Committee is in place, meets monthly, takes part in the meetings, and that they receive all required training.
- Assist in accident and/or injury investigations, or property damage claims to ensure timely reporting and resolution
Leadership:
- Effectively communicates the Company’s strategy, objectives, and expectations to your operating team employees.
