**Job Purpose**
The Trades Helper assists other trades in the completion of their duties.
**Responsibilities**:
- Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture;
- Assist fitters, welders and painters with tasks;
- Assist foremen with daily jobs i.E. finding items;
- General knowledgeof tools and equipment;
- Use the drill press or magnet drill to drill holes into steel;
- Use oxygen and acetylene to cut steel;
- Use a 5” or 7” grinder to grind plates or other material i.E. beams, channels and angles;
- Read a tape measure (metric and imperial) and blue prints;
- Manually move small pieces of steel;
- Assist with housekeeping in the shop (sweeping) and outside, as required;
- Attend daily toolbox meetings;
- Follow work schedules;
- Ensures that s/hewears the appropriate personal protective equipment at all times;
- Maintains good housekeeping in work area;
- Report personal injuries, no matter how minor, and obtain medical attention as required;
- Consistently follow and encourage shop rules;
- Willing to work overtime when needed.
Qualifications:
- Certified Overhead Crane Training preferred;
- Respirator Training preferred;
- Basic Rigging Course an asset;
- FLHA Training;
- WHMIS.
**Working Conditions**
The incumbent is required to work in the fabrication shop with moderate noise.
**Physical Requirements**
The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as:
viewing specifications for extended periods of time;
and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven ground, climbing, confined space entry, limited lifting, and sitting.
