**A day in the life of an Entertainer**
You visit the residence and provide entertainment to a group. You can engage Residents of all abilities in your performance, and provide a repertoire that is appropriate for the demographic. You take pride in connecting and sharing your craft with the Residents.
**Responsibilities and Duties**:
You will interact with the Life enrichment team in providing entertainment for our Residents. This may include:
- Providing entertainment to groups on our different neighbourhoods (Independent Living, Assisted Living and/ or Memory Care)
- Support Residents in learning a new skill
- ex. Teaching guitar, or piano, or ukulele
- Engaging Residents of all abilities during performance
- Providing a repertoire that is appropriate to the group
**Qualifications**:
As an Entertainer you demonstrate the following:
- Passion for providing high quality entertainment to seniors
- Good verbal communication in English (or other language as required)
- Proficiency and skill in your genre/ instrument/ skill set
- Ability to continue performing when there are distractions
Based on the frequency and location of your visits, each volunteer may be required to provide:
- A Vulnerable Sector Screening from the Police/ RCMP
- A clear TB test
COVID 19 Protocols:
- All volunteers will follow COVID 19 protocols in the Residence in alignment with the Team Member strategy (may include masking, hand hygiene training, etc.)
**Preferred Experience**:
- Experience spending time with seniors (family members, community members, etc.)
- Experience performing for seniors (community centre, retirement home, long term care, etc.)
- Looking for:
- Musicians
- Individual or group performers
- Who are interested in teaching seniors their craft
- Young students looking to practice in front of an audience
- Other performers
- Musicians, jugglers, clowns, comedians, acting groups, etc.
**Commitment Expected**:
We are flexible around commitment and timing for performers
- may vary from once or twice per year, to weekly depending on Resident preference.
Duration:
Performances typically last between 30 minutes and 1 hour each. Please expect to arrive in advance to welcome attendees and ensure proper set up.
**Training**:
We support a vulnerable group of seniors, and as such you may be asked to complete a training process that includes:
- In person support including:
- ** Behaviour management**:
- what to do if you see a Resident experiencing a behavior
- ** Emergency Preparedness**:
- should there be an emergency when you are onsite
- ** Supporting Residents with Cognitive Aging-** Our Residents are all at different places in their aging experience, and some need additional support. We have modules to help you learn how to support and get comfortable with interacting with Residents who may be more forgetful or need more prompting.
- Support from our Life Enrichment Coordinator and Team
- Each LEC helps to guide and support the Entertainers around the needs required for the event
- Regular touch bases to make sure you have what you need, get your feedback and recommendations.

- To prepare and understand what to do in case of emergency
