Copernicus Lodge is a not-for-profit healthcare organization that has been providing care and services to seniors in Toronto’s west-end community for over 40 years.
Our team of frontline healthcare providers and staff provide direct compassionate care and services to seniors, including 228 residents in long-term care, 200 independent tenants (assisted living/supportive housing services) and up to 20 adult day program clients daily. In addition to our Government Funding, the **Polish Canadian community** in West Toronto is a great asset to our organization.

**Purpose of Volunteer**:
To provide social contact, companionship and support to our residents. Provide Meal Assistance support. Porter Residents to programming. Support with activation therapy.
**Time Commitment**
Weekly, up to 2-4 hours.
**Responsibilities**
- Report to shift on time and ready
- Follow instructions provided by staff
- Be mindful of role limitations and safety
- Visit residents you are matched to on a regular basis. If taking a resident off of the floor, check in with staff and must sign resident in and out
- Share interest and hobbies with resident through discussion and activities (if appropriate)
- Read aloud, write letters, play games, etc. depending on residents’ interests and abilities
- Report any concerns or incidents to a clinical team member immediately
- Act as an ambassador for Copernicus Lodge and the community that is served
- Adhere to all Infection, Prevention and control and any other requirements as identified by members of staff (e.G. wearing appropriate PPE)
- Understand and respect the Resident’s Bill of Rights
- Bring forward any new ideas or suggestions
**Organizational Relationships**
Works in collegial cooperation with:
- Volunteers, Volunteer Coordinator, Activation team, nursing team, residents, family members and/or caregivers
**Qualifications**
- Demonstrated ability to be sociable, friendly and a good (verbal and nonverbal) communicator
- Follow direction and receive feedback well
- Positive attitude and good customer service skills
- Ability to stay calm and seek assistance when required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Being able to speak/write in Polish is an asset
- Able to note and immediately report any resident distress
- Applicants must be at least 18+ years old
- Must be fully Covid-19 vaccinated (2 doses) or be able to submit a medical exemption.
