**Arena Operator
- Kings Mutual Century Centre**
**Background**:
The Berwick and District Community Association (BDCA) owns and operates the Kings Mutual Century Centre (KMCC), located in Berwick, Nova Scotia. The KMCC is a multi-purpose community centre, comprised of a National Hockey League sized ice surface for hockey and ringette, a 4-sheet curling ice surface (home of the Berwick Curling Club), the Berwick and District Lions Club, and The Berwick Fitness Centre. In addition, the facility also houses a retail sporting goods store and a physiotherapy clinic. The KMCC operates seasonally with respect to the hockey arena, and curling club, but operates year-round with respect to the other organizations in the building.
**General Accountability**:
Reporting to the KMCC General Manager, the Arena Operator is a pro-active and hands-on individual who performs general maintenance to ensure facility upkeep and performs regular maintenance of the arena ice surface. Their primary responsibilities include ice resurfacing and edging (operating the Ice Resurfacer), janitorial work, and general maintenance of the facility, while providing excellent customer service to all users of the Kings Mutual Century Centre (KMCC).
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. Perform maintenance tasks in accordance with local building and fire codes.
2. Operation of the Ice Resurfacing equipment (Zamboni), including edging.
3. Maintaining the ice surface at a desired depth to ensure great ice conditions while optimizing the efficiency of the ice-plant operation.
4. Levelling of the ice surface.
5. Painting of the ice surface.
6. Repairing the dasher board system when required.
7. Replacement of the Arena glass when required.
8. Refurbishment of the hockey nets when required.
9. Execute maintenance and repair of facility fixtures and components.
10. Perform janitorial duties as assigned. These may include janitorial checklists, vacuuming, auto scrubbing, waxing, and buffing in line with established floor care procedures.
11. Ensure that building entrances, common areas, grounds, and parking lots are kept clean, clear and safe. This may include property and grounds cleanup, grass cutting and edging, and seasonal snow and debris removal.
12. Perform minor maintenance on facility and ice maintenance equipment including, but not limited to,
Ice Resurfacer safety check, clean, and wax, safe blade changes and greasing as required.
13. Maintain appropriate checklists, records and reports as required.
**Qualifications**:
1. Completed high school education or equivalent (preferred).
2. Valid driver’s license (preferred).
**Abilities, Attributes and Experience**:
1) Previous experience, training, and operation of ice resurfacing equipment considered an asset.
2) Willingness and ability to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends).
3) Approachable and team oriented with great communication skills.
4) Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude (preferred).
5) Willingness and ability to acquire knowledge required to challenge the exam to gain Refrigeration Plant Operator Class 2 ticket.
The Arena Operator position is a full-time seasonal position, generally starting with the installation of the arena ice in late July and continuing until the removal of the arena ice each Spring.
