Reporting to the Director of the Press, the Sales and Distribution Manager is responsible for overseeing the sales and distribution operations for the Press.
Primary responsibilities:
1. Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory through all distribution centers and channels. Supporting activities include:
- Monitor and adjust inventory levels at all distribution centers.
- Initiate and coordinate reprints.
- Process inventory orders from international distribution partners.
- Manage and distribute ebooks.
- Collate and analyze sales data for comparative backlist titles and make recommendations for initial print runs of new titles.
- Oversee and/or fulfill internal distribution duties, including onsite stockroom, mailings, etc.
2. Manage metadata. Supporting activities include:
- Collect title metadata, including but not limited to book descriptions, keywords, author bios, pricing, release dates, pub dates, and page counts.
- Collaborate with marketing staff/partners to optimize metadata.
- Enter, proofread, update, and maintain metadata in all appropriate databases for all titles.
- Manage metadata distribution database.
- Manage the URP website, including but not limited to adding ISBNs and ensuring all titles appear correctly on the site, and posting catalogs.
- Regularly review distribution channels, including retailer websites and backend databases, to ensure metadata is ingested, accurate, and up to date, and that products are available.
- Assign and track ISBNs.
3. Maintain sales and distribution partnerships. Supporting activities include:
- Maintain regular contact and collaborative relationships with domestic, international, and ebook distribution partners.
- Ensure that sales partners have all materials and information required to be effective sales representatives for the Press, including metadata, catalogs, and media updates.
- Make conference inventory/content recommendations to, process inventory orders for, and provide information to global sales and distribution partners.
- Build and/or leverage reporting capabilities to track sales, and prepare sales reports.
- Attend and present Press titles seasonal sales conferences.
- Collaborate with production, creative, and marketing staff/partners to develop print seasonal book catalogs. Build digital catalogs for retail buyers.
- Update URP social media to promote URP titles.
- Prepare sales reports for annual royalty preparation and distribution.
- and event-related grants, including supporting documentation. Solicit and incorporate content from colleagues as required.
5. Prepare for and attend conferences and events. Supporting activities include:
- Plan and order event-specific inventory.
- Develop promotional materials for events, and coordinate their production with the production and creative staff.
- Manage onsite event logistics, including scheduling, setup and breakdown, POS equipment, and social media.
- Prepare and distribute debrief reports.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years’ publishing or related experience, preferably in sales, distribution, inventory management, or marketing.
- Superior organizational skills, with the ability to plan and manage multiple tasks and projects to deadline in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven database and records management and maintenance skills.
- Proven attention to detail and a record of accuracy.
- The ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and/or projections.
- Superior written and oral communication and skills.
- Proven analytical and critical thinking skills.
- The ability to think both strategically and tactically.
- Customer service experience.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of how both trade and academic books are selected, acquired and made discoverable by libraries, retailers, and scholars preferred.
- Experience planning conference exhibits and events preferred.
- Experience writing grants preferred.
- A familiarity with Canada’s literary landscape a plus.
- The ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
- The ability to work extended hours as needed to support events and high-priority deadlines.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs, to work at a desk for extended periods of time (in office), to walk or stand for extended periods of time (at events).

Pay Grade APT 4 Salary Range $62,909 - $84,893 Annually Status Permanent Work Hours
