Perform power system studies including load flow, short circuit, harmonics, arc flash, insulation coordination, grounding, dynamic stability, transient stability.Assess interconnection projects for grid code compliance.Develop comprehensive protection studies and accompanying protection relay settings and support the field-testing team in their implementation.Lead and/or prepare electrical engineering designs, including single lines, metering and relaying diagrams, design schematics, calculations, and conceptual designs, utilizing standard methods and project principles.Review the work of engineers and designers developing engineering and design documents as needed for the project.Integrate new designs within complex existing brownfield environments.Mentor and guide junior staff, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of design standards, applicable engineering codes, and guidelines, providing suggestions and recommendations as needed.Collaborating closely with client technical leaders to ensure seamless coordination.Travel to client operations, leading technical interventions while prioritizing client operational integrity. What we’re looking for:
Hold a graduate degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D) in a relevant engineering discipline such as electrical power or electrical engineering, or hold a B.Sc. with a demonstrated path of directly related experience.Registered as a professional engineer or eligible for registration as an engineer in BC.At least 10 years of experience specifically applicable to the qualifications noted in this posting.Experience with system analysis tools such as PSS/E, ETAP, EMTP, PSCAD, CDEGS, CYME, ASPEN or other equivalents.Demonstrated command of IEEE and IEC power system standards.Strong Knowledge of High Voltage substation North American standards &
guidelines, and relatedequipment (safety, application, sizing, and integration). Moreover, ability to engineer design packages when limited customer specification is provided.Working knowledge of applicable design calculations for primary &
secondary equipment such as battery sizing &
DC system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus, fittings, insulator, and arrector selection, ground grid design, and lightning protection.Valuable Assets:
Knowledge of substation apparatus testing and construction practices.Protection relay field testing and commissioning experience.Experience in applying IEC 61850 in protection system design.Experience in transmission and distribution line design.Proficiency in scripting languages for power system studies.
